What is a Powwow?
A powwow is a Native American gathering that brings together Indigenous communities to celebrate their culture, heritage, and spirituality. It includes traditional regalia, intertribal dancing, singing, and Indigenous foods and crafts.
What not to do at a powwow?
Don’t touch dancers’ regalia
Don’t take close-up photos without permission
Don't walk through the dance arena
Don’t interrupt ceremonies, dancing, or singing
Don't drink alcohol
What to do?
Be respectful
Stand quietly during prayers and flag songs
Always follow the instructions of the emcee or arena director
