Cowboy Sounds All Around

Educational Video

Clop, clop! Moo, moo! Whoosh, whoosh! Cowboy sounds are all around in this interactive read aloud video. The Cowboy Sounds All Around video will introduce families and students to what cowboys do and the sounds that cowboys hear. Families and students can listen, follow along, look at images from the Autry Museum’s collection, repeat sounds, and guess what makes each sound as they learn the cowboy way!

Teaching Tips for Different Learning Environments

Whole Class In-Person Learning:

Activate: Activate students’ prior knowledge.

  • Have the students share what they imagined.

Investigate: Students will learn about cowboys and cowgirls.

  • Show the Cowboy Sounds All Around video to the whole class.
  • When prompted to “Say your guess out loud on the count of three,” pause the video for the students to discuss what they think is making the sound with a partner, in a group, or with the whole class.
  • After the video, ask the whole class to share what cowboys and cowgirls look like, what they wear, and what they do.
  • Have the students complete the matching activity in the What Helps A Cowboy Or Cowgirl Do Their Job? lesson (See Video Resources) independently, with a partner, in groups, or with the whole class.

Create: Students will create a story about a cowboy or cowgirl.

  • Have students write cowboy or cowgirl stories independently, with a partner, in groups, or with the whole class using the What Helps A Cowboy Or Cowgirl Do Their Job? lesson (See Video Resources).

Demonstrate: Students will demonstrate their learning by sharing their work with others.
