Celebrate the 25^th Anniversary of Wild Wild West, an iconic steampunk Western which showcases Will Smith and Kevin Kline as two U.S. Secret Service agents working together to protect U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant and the United States from a variety of dangerous threats. 

This film is a bombastic romp that highlights the fictional role of a leading African American cowboy and takes audiences on a winding trip through the American West. It also conveys how 90s cinema portrayed the contributions of Black cowboys to the West and is an important predecessor to Black Westerns of today.

The What is a Western? Film Series explores the wide range of movies that can be considered Westerns, and the ways in which they shape our understanding of the American West. Each screening includes a guest lecturer who will introduce the film and explain its significance in the genre.
