About the Event

Screened in 35mm!

Celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the classic anti-war satire, Dr Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.

What happens when atomic technology meets rugged Western individualism and the cowboy’s can-do spirit? In Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 comedy, Dr. Strangelove, the result is nuclear apocalypse. The movie showcases classic humor performances by Peter Sellers and George C Scott, but it’s cowboy actor and real-life rodeo star Slim Pickens who brings down the house… and the planet.

From Los Alamos to the Nevada Proving Grounds to the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, the American West has been ground zero for the creation of our nuclear world. Visit the exhibition Out of Site: Survey Science and the Hidden West to discover other artistic explorations of the Atomic West.

Screening introduced by Christopher Endy, California State University, Los Angeles

Directed by Stanley Kubrick | Starring Peter Sellers, George C. Scott, and Sterling Hayden

Rated R
